Anteaters stuff the 49ers, 10-5

The sixth-ranked UC Irvine men’s water polo team downed No. 9 Long

Beach State, 10-5, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action at

the Los Alamitos Naval Base Wednesday night.

Senior Jeff Powers led the Anteaters with four goals, including

two straight in the third quarter to give UCI a 7-2 lead. Junior

Garrett Gentry and sophomore Dreason Barry added two goals each for

UCI, which improved to 13-7 overall and 4-3 in the MPSF. Senior

goalie Doug Finfrock had six saves.

Senior Aaron Holloway led the 49ers with two goals and goalie

Thomas Onyshko had eight saves as Long Beach State fell to 13-14

overall and 1-6 in the MPSF.

Preps: CdM routs Tesoro, 18-1

The host Corona del Mar Sea Kings scored seven goals in the first

quarter and added six more at the start of the second half to sink

Tesoro in Pacific Coast League boys water polo, 18-1.

John Mann played as if among boys, scoring seven goals.

Artie Dorr, John Money and Ali Kattan each scored twice for the

Sea Kings, 17-7 overall, who completed PCL play as undefeated

champions with a 4-0 mark.

Corona del Mar, CIF Division II champions the past three years,

await the first round of the playoffs, which begin Nov. 13. The

pairings will be released on Monday.
