Jr. Clinic Seahawks are off on the right foot, 19-18

The Jr. Clinic (7- and 8-year-olds) Seahawks got off to the right

start in the playoffs with a 19-18 victory over the Norwalk/Santa Fe

Springs Saints Tuesday. The previous Saturday, the Seahawks lost to

the South Orange County Patriots, 26-12.

The Seahawks’ offense against the Patriots was led by the strong

running of Jeff Carlyle, who scored a touchdown and collected 70

rushing yards, and Kellon Truxton and the blocking of All-Conference

lineman Mario Rosales, Hunter Durante, A.J. Swies and Taro Doone.

Quarterback Jake Hall played strong offense and defense,

completing two of three passes to Michael Favreau, one a TD pass, and

had several tackles.

Truxton had runs of 10 and 15 yards in the second half behind the

blocking of Ryan Takabayashi, Levi Stillman, Jack Harris, Zach

Feinberg, John Park, Tim Kelley and Colby Watson.

Durante also playedquarterback, running sneaks for 20 yards.

The All-Conference defender, Carlyle, led the team with several

key tackles and was assisted by fellow All-Conference player Jack

Kanen, who made several tackles and ran the ball well.

Shane Takabayashi prowled the defensive backfield, stopping the

Patriots’ momentum in the second half and Durante, Favreau and Arron

Crosby stuffed the middle of the line with many tackles. They

received support from Shane Everett and Jacob Ambrose, who helped on

several tackles.

All-Conference player Anthony Taormina teamed with Chance

Beauchamp and Josh Rivera to open holes for Seahawk running backs and

made some key tackles on defense.

The Jr. Clinic Seahawks’ season came to an end Saturday with a

33-0 loss to the La Mirada Matadors.

In Clinic (8-10-year-olds) action:

* The Seahawks defeated the Carson Colts for the second time in

four days on Oct. 30, drawing the Carson defense offsides 10 times.

Mark Contreras scored two touchdowns, one a 42-yard sweep to give

the Seahawks a 13-6 lead, and he scored his third TD on a kickoff

return this season.

Tyler Henry scored a rushing TD from 4 yards out in the fourth

quarter to seal the victory after Michael Taormina hit Reid Wallace

with a 32-yard pass with six seconds remaining in the first half to

give the Seahawks a 25-12 lead.

The Seahawk defense shut out Carson in the second half with hits

from Buzzy Yokoyama, Taormina, Bret Klein, Blake Davis, Zack

Porteous, Nick Treadway and Ryan Iverson.

Dillon Miller, T.J. Danner, Kyle Orton, Zack Vuich, Xav Langton

and Reid Johnson opened holes for the offense that had solid play

from Elizabeth Eddy, Graham Frasier, Yokoyama, Taormina and Iverson.

On Nov. 2 the Seahawks ended their season with a 21-0 loss to the

undefeated La Mirada Matadors.

Five turnovers by the Seahawks enabled La Mirada to score three

times to seal the victory in the second half.

Taormina left the game with a fractured collarbone after leading

the Seahawks to the La Mirada 30-yard line on its opening drive. Eddy

entered the game at quarterback for the first time this season.

Contreras played solid on both sides of the ball and Zack Porteous

ran the ball well in the slot-back position.

The offensive line was led by Klein, Langton, Tyler Barbato,

Iverson, Vuich and Frasier and Wallace. Tyler Henry, Akil, Orton,

Johnson, Rory Kew and Park Eddy played strong defense.

The Clinic Seahawks (8-10-year-olds) ended the regular season,

4-4, after a 30-13 victory over the Carson Colts.

Quarterback Taormina rushed for two touchdowns and completed four

of five passes for 98 yards while Contreras and Luchs each scored

after breaking tackles. Luchs scored on a 4-yard dive.

The Seahawks received strong running from Buzzy Yokoyama, Fraser

and Elizabeth Eddy and the defense held the Colts scoreless in the

first half with help from Kew, Klein, Taormina, Contreras, Yokoyama,

Cody Peters, Henry, Park Eddy, Orton, Akil, Gabe Gomez, Iverson,

Langton and Joseph DiCesare.

In Jr. Pee Wee (9-11-year-olds) action:

* The Jr. Pee Wee Seahawks lost 33-0 to the South Orange County

Patriots in the first round of the playoffs Saturday at La Mirada

High School.

In Pee Wee action:

* The Pee Wee Seahawks beat the Compton Pathfinders, 16-12, in

the first round of playoffs Saturday and move to the second round

against the Carson Colts Saturday.

The Pee Wee Seahawks (10-12-year-olds) beat the Inglewood Jets,

16-12, Oct. 26 and finished 5-3.
