Thunder holds off Costa Mesa

Corona del Mar’s Boys under-14 Blue Thunder defeated Costa Mesa,

6-4, Saturday in Boys-under 14 action in AYSO Region 57 Soccer

action.

Chris Wheeler and Derek Larson both scored two goals for the

winnes and Jeff Larson and Ford Noe each chipped in with goal apiece

for Corona del Mar.

Marco Burciago scored three goals for a hat trick and Eric Stoner

added a single goal for Costa Mesa.

Morgan Boman, Nick Groke, Mike Brusic, Scott Feeley and Alireza

Nazemi provided keydefensive efforts and came through with midfield

support for Corona del Mar.

Matt Moore made several saves in goal to help hold off Costa Mesa.

In Girls under-12 play:

* Blue Crush 2, Lemonheads 0

Laura Kopel scored two goals to key the Blue Crush in its

regular-season finale.

The Blue Crush finish the season 7-1-1 heading into the playoffs.

Kelsey Davis played solid midfield and Katie Murai played well on

defense in front of goalkeeper Michelle Lancaster.

In Girls under-11 APP Plus action:

* Corona del Mar Hotspurs 3, Laguna Niguel Explosion 1

Two goals from Sidney Brombal (Haley Raguse assist) and one goal

by Isa Taskinen led the Corona del Mar Hotspurs to a 3-1 victory over

the Laguna Niguel Explosion in Girls under-11 APP Plus play.

Corona, 6-2-1, received offensive and midfield support from Maddie

Simmonds, Brooke DeMiranda, Katie Deverian, Kelly Feeley, Katie

DeMiranda and Hanna Stuart.

Goalkeepers and defenders Sarah Folks and Kyla Winkle, Laura

Fleming and Bayli Stefl limited the Explosion to one goal.

In Boys under-10 play:

* Blue Crush 1, Team USA 0

The Blue Crush’s Conner Cruz fired a 15-yard shot off a rebound

above the outstretched arm of Team USA’s goalkeeper Clark Cashion to

score the game’s only goal and give the Blue Crush the hard-fought

victory.

Team USA kept the pressure on offense with Mason Case, Jack Gorab,

Michael Dahl and Nicholas Molinara as did the Blue Crush with Connor

Cole and Brent Lawson.

Team USA’s defense was led by Blake Allen, Michael Ayzin, Ryan

Gooding and Matthew Larson.

* Wolfpack 3, Patriots 1

Connor Gaal scored three goals for the Wolfpack, who received

steady defense from Brent Gray, Matt English, Iman Josheghani, Zach

Davis and Michael Drews.

Colton Ford and English anchored duties in goal.

* Gunners 2, Rams 2

By virtue of a tiebreak, the Gunners take the No. 1 seed into the

playoffs after a 2-2 tie against the Rams Saturday in the Boys

under-10 American Division.

The Gunners (7-1-1) got two goals from Nick Gooding and Jack Nowak

and Emery Molnar dominated the midfield.

Spencer Christoff and Brandon Rus led several attacking runs and

Cameron Orr, Nathan Chisholm, Colin Beaver and Ryan Durazo anchored

the defense.

Goalkeeper Tanner Grandstaff made some key saves to preserve the

win.

In Girls under-7 action:

* Katie Curci scored three goals and Noelle Gooding and Isabella

Hill each scored two goals apiece for the Pink Panthers in a game

against the Purple Butterflies.

Marissa Fink and Paige Larsh each scored one goal and Lauren

Cairns, Alexis Case and Melanie Holmen contributed solid defense for

the Panthers.

In Boys under-7 play:

* Four players scored goals for the Tornadoes in a game Saturday.

Jake Hastings and Sterling Beall each tallied two scores and Matt

Deverian and Matt Elmajian each added one goal apiece for the

Tornadoes.

Jared Daniels keyed on defense and J.B. Lee was strong in goal.

Trey Wood and Chad Sheldon contributed to the Tornadoes’ attack.

In Boys under-6 action:

* Blake Davidson scored four goals to lead the Killer Tigers in a

game Saturday against the Thunderbolts.

He leads the team in scoring this season.
