IRVINE -- Newport Harbor High will be the No. 2 representative

from the Sea View League in the CIF Southern Section Division VI

football playoffs, following the results of a coin flip held Friday

at Irvine High to break a three-way tie for second.

The Sailors (7-3, 3-2 in league) dropped into the second-place

deadlock after falling to league-champion Foothill, 45-21, Thursday

night.

Laguna Hills (6-4, 3-2), which defeated Irvine (6-4, 3-2)

Thursday, will go as the league’s No. 3 representative and Irvine,

which defeated both Foothill and Newport Harbor, will be forced to

compete for the division’s lone at-large berth.

Losses to Aliso Niguel and Laguna Hills turned Irvine’s

championship hopes upside down.

As a second-place entry, Newport Harbor may earn a home game in

the first round. Football playoff pairings will be announced Sunday

at the Southern Section office in Los Alamitos.

In other CIF Playoffs competition on Saturday:

Water polo -- Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor won coin flips and

will host Foothill and El Toro, respectively, each at noon in

Division I boys play.

Volleyball -- Newport Harbor, seeded No. 1 in the Division II-A

girls playoffs, are at Cathedral City at 7 p.m. Corona del Mar

(Division III-A) won the coin flip and will host Santa Ynez, also at

Mar is at Aliso Niguel, Costa Mesa is at Savanna, Sage Hill is at
