Money should be divided evenly
The absurdity of it: There’s $2 million given by the Segerstroms
to the city of Costa Mesa for the schools. What I don’t understand is
why didn’t that money go directly to the schools themselves and
divided equally. If there’s $2 million and three schools, it’s pretty
obvious they should divide it equally and each school gets that
amount, but to put together a seven-person panel to decide where the
money goes, obviously this is a misuse and abuse of taxpayer’s money
because it just seems like a legal kickback is really all this is,
because if that money was really intended for the schools, it should
have gone directly from the Segerstroms to the schools. It shouldn’t
go to the city, and let the city decide how it gets distributed.

I think that [Costa Mesa city leaders] need to realize that the
money is not for them. The money is for the kids at the two high
schools and that many of our Costa Mesa kids already are in a
foundation at Newport Harbor and have gotten the benefits, and we
need to get this money to where it belongs as quickly as possible,
which is to the children at the two high schools, and I believe that
Estancia should have their own foundation and Costa Mesa should have
their own.
