Lava hot in first playoff victory

The Hot Lava defense played steady, holding a shutout intact to

win its first playoff game, 3-0, in Boys under-14 AYSO Region 57

soccer action.

Timely defense from fullbacks Andrew Martinez, Matt Rhodes, Ricky

Lobel and Spencer Singh along with stops by goalkeepers Andrew

Hawkins and Geoffrey Grant helped secure the win.

Ryan Hultman led the offensive attack scoring two goals off

assists from Chris Wallace and George Logan while Grant scored the

third goal on an assist from Kyle Tomlin.

Midfielders Nick Booth, David Grant, Jared Rivera-Ashley and Nick

Doud controlled the ball effectively.

In Girls under-12 action:

* Blue Crush 4, California Crazy Cliffords 0

Laura Kopel had a hat trick and Bryn Hastings added one goal in

the Blue Crush’s shutout win Friday night.

Amanda Johnson rounded out strong play at forward and Kelsey Davis

keyed the midfield.

Defender Beth Arnesen and sweeper Megan Gaal helped clinch the

victory.

* Blue Crush 2, Purple Punishment 1

A clutch save by Blue Crush goalkeeper Michelle Lancaster

preserved a one-goal victory that increased the Crush’s playoff

record to 3-0.

Kopel scored both goals for the Crush while Gaal and Johnson

played steady throughout.

The Punishment’s Claire Schmidt scored in the third quarter.

In Boys under-12 action:

* Silver Bullets 4, Green Surfing Monkeys 0

The Silver Bullets recorded their second consecutive shutout in

pool play, blanking the Green Surfing Monkeys.

Three different players scored for the Bullets, all in the second

half. Tommy Bangert led off the scoring followed by Camden

Nicholson’s goal.

Ori Tabak collected two assists and Koomi Chehabi added a third

goal followed by Bangert’s second goal.

Defense provided by Scott Berkhausen, Jamie Heinecke, Alex Jarrett

and goalie Connor Benvenuti preserved the shutout and Jonathan

Jaffee, Kevin Corrigan and Anthony Francisco also aided in the win.

In Girls under-10 play:

* Pink Princesses 2, Chargers 0

Kellie Langwell and Amanda Bastien each had a goal and Paulina

Leach and Savannah Thies pressured the Charger defense constantly to

improve the Princesses to 3-0-1 with a shot at the league

championship.

Dana Lowry controlled the midfield with help from Juliette Bioche

and Brooke Braga and Allyson Mason and Jacqueline Adams controlled

the ball on defense.

Corinne Damon ran down Emily Romano’s breakaway to avert a goal

and Erinn Holmann in the first halt, and Mason and Braga in the

second half, all played steady in goal.

For the Chargers, Nikki Zak and Jillian St. Geme played strong and

Nica Sabouni stopped several Princess shots in goal.

* Pink Princesses 2, Green Mean Fighting Machine 0

Langwell drove a penalty kick into the upper net for the first

goal and assisted Bastien on the second goal to key a Princess

victory.

Leach, Thies and Bioche contributed strong defense and Lowry,

Damon, Mason and Adams patrolled the midfield while Holmann and Braga

shared goalkeeping duties.

The Machine was led by Ali Halford, Sophie Solow, Madison

Vitarelli and Amabel Pidgeon.

In Boys under-10 play:

* Dark Dragons 3, Orange Crush 0

Dylan Pievac scored two goals and Austin Pollard tallied one to

key a Dragon shutout.

Left forward Cort Hastings provided key passes while goalies

Joshua Harrison and Charlie Howarth played flawless.

* The Gunners advanced to the semifinals of the Boys under-10

American Division playoffs with two shutouts last weekend.

The Gunners (9-1-2) beat the Red Devils, 1-0 Friday, and fought to

a 0-0 tie Saturday against the Dragons. The Gunners have held their

opponents scoreless in eight of their 12 games.

Nick Gooding scored the only goal of Friday’s game on a rebound

from Colin Beaver’s shot that hit the cross bar.

Emery Molnar and Jack Nowak controlled the midfield with

ballhandling skills and Spencer Christoff and Nathan Chisholm created

several scoring chances.

Cameron Orr anchored the Gunners’ defense, assisted by Ryan

Durazo, and Tanner Grandstaff and Molnar made saves to preserve the

shutout.

In Girls under-7 action:

* The Pink Panthers battled the Teal Tigers and both teams played

well.

Marissa Fink and Noelle Gooding each scored a Panther goal

supported by Lauren Cairns and Paige Larsh at forward.

Jenna Rose Alder and Isabella Hill played strong defense while

Katie Curci was solid in goal.

In Boys under-6 action:

* Corey Nicholson and Brett Davidson scored goals to lead the

Killer Tigers.

Jack Frey played solid defense in the game Saturday.
