Lawry’s Carvery opens in Costa Mesa today

Lawry’s Restaurants, which operates a well-known steakhouse in

Beverly Hills, will open a new lunch eatery called Lawry’s Carvery

today.

With a grand opening ceremony scheduled for tonight, Lawry’s

Carvery is billing itself as a sandwich restaurant that is “a cut

above the rest.”

The restaurant will serve sandwiches made from hot roasted meats,

salads, turkey, soups and other items. It’s on the second floor of

South Coast Plaza.

The eatery is replacing Cafe Pasquini, a popular eatery that

closed about a year ago. This newest restaurant from Lawry’s, which

owns Corona del Mar’s Five Crowns and The Prime Rib in Beverly Hills,

is the first of its kind.

Newport Coast resident David Stockman, senior vice president with

the company, spearheaded the team of Lawry’s executives who developed

the idea about 18 months ago.

Five Crowns chef Dennis Brask, who lives in Corona del Mar, has

also joined a crew of food preparers at the Carvery.

Lawry’s has sunk $1.5 million into the restaurant, which is

considered a “quick-casual eatery,” a new style of eateries oriented

toward fast, high-quality food.

An average lunch tab will run about $8, Stockman said.

Carvery managers cracked the seal on the newest addition to their

chain of restaurants. The Prime Rib, Lawry’s first restaurant, was

opened by Lawrence Frank in 1922.
