Costa Mesa stops Huntington Beach

Goals by Nick Arant, Luis Andratti and Brian Henriquez sparked the

AYSO Region 120 Boys under-16 soccer team to a 3-1 victory over South

Huntington Beach.

Goalkeeper Matt Pisarski made numerous saves in goal and the

entire team displayed solid effort.

In Boys under-12 play:

* Spitfire 9, Firebirds 1

Jordan Straubel scored the only Firebird goal against the

Spitfire.

The Firebirds began the playoffs without Adam Gardner, Alex Suarez

and Omar Gamboa, who all missed the first game.

Remaining players Nicholas Desidario, Arnold Hernandez, Edward

Garcia, Ruben Rubio, Robert Rutan, Eric Cushing, Marc DeFrenza and

Straubel kept the Spitfire at bay for the first quarter.

In girls under-14 play:

Keyed by Emily Leece’s three goals, the Strikers continued an

undefeated season with a 5-0 victory in the first round of playoffs

in Girls under-14 AYSO Region 120 soccer action Saturday.

Taylor Carpenter and Carina Merida also scored goals for the

Strikers. Karyn Hay assisted on Merida’s goal that broke a 0-0 tie in

the second quarter.

Ashton Henderson stopped at least 10 shots on goal and Myra Roman

played strong at fullback, stopping several attacks.

In Girls under-10 play:

* Goalkeepers Erin Kincaid and Laurel Hinson blocked several

shots, helping to shutout the Blue Crushers.

In Boys under-8 action:

* The Fireballs showed their teamwork and passing skills against

the Blaze.

Alex DeSoto scored the lone Firebird goal and received strong

offense from Brandon Dehdashtian, Danny Hernandez, Ian Lundt and Cole

Mensinger.

Jack Dunning, A.J. Fischer, Jordan Larson and Casey Dunning led

the defense.

In Boys under-6 play:

* The Hoppers battled the Scorpions.

The Hoppers scored a few goals as Cody Nelson fed the ball to Cole

Norris and then to Cole Rowerdink for scores. Karl Donovan assisted

Sean Fisher and Christopher DeFrenza also helped on offense.

Colin Williams was awarded the most-improved player.

In Girls under-6 play:

* The Blue Dolphins and Pink Dolphins both played their final

game of the season Saturday.

Madison Ongstad scored a goal and Olivia LeValley also scored for

the Blue Dolphins.

Emily Russel and Lisa Perlin blocked and kicked the ball well and

Azuncena Angulo and Citlaly Gomez came close to scoring goals.

Hope Fox moved the ball well toward the goal for Coach Bill

LeValley’s team.
