Newport masters Monarchs

The Newport Harbor frosh-soph club roller hockey team improved to

4-0-0 with a 5-1 win over Mater Dei Sunday.

Newport limited the Monarchs to 14 shots while applying 44 of

their own.

Newport’s balanced attack was led by one goal each from Chris

Willard, Lindsay Taylor, Kyle Pfeiffer, Grant Casserly and Rory

Campbell with Zack Boston and Jesus Sotelo each tallying two assists.

In earlier roller hockey action:

* Newport scored an 8-0 victory over Santa Margarita to move to

3-0-0.

Newport limited the Eagles to 11 shots and Jake Merzoian recorded

his second shutout in three games.

Casserly and Pfeiffer led the attack with two goals apiece.

Rhett Palmer, Sotelo, Willard and Boston chipped in one goal each

and Campbell added two assists for Newport.

In Mite Club (10-year-olds) action:

* Storm 8, Team Thor 3

The Storm (8-1) moved into first place with the win over Team Thor

(6-3).

Ryan Iverson scored his 400th career goal off a slap shot from the

top of the slot and netted another score while collecting two

assists.

Max McCourt fired three goals in the first period and Garrett Haar

(two) and Blake Kelly (one) rounding out the scoring.

Goaltender A.J. Allen stopped 21 of 24 shots and was helped on

defense by C.J. Piz, Matt Stohavich and Haar. Justin Peters showed a

solid performance playing in his first game for the Storm.

In Boys & Girls Club third-grade roller hockey play:

* The Kings beat the Red Wings, 4-3, to win the third grade

championship in the third grade roller hockey division.

Blake Bell led the scoring with two goals and Blake Bowie and Ben

Tolan each added one goal for the victors.

Riley Robinson netted two goals and Dane Palanjian added a single

goal for the Wings.

Welsey Olsen, Jenna Nulty and Mason Murphy anchored the King

defense with Preston Lee, Henry Lee, Jack Hudley, Nick Shidi, Nick

Blanda and Scott Russell playing strong for the Red Wings.
