Shopping ‘til we’re dropping

It’s officially begun.

The holiday shopping season, as evidenced by Friday’s pushing,

elbowing and dealing, has been given the green light, though all the

holiday decorations pre-Thanksgiving (and even Halloween) seemed

evidence that no store owner would have put up a stop sign on

free-wheeling spending before this weekend.

By many accounts, it may be a slow sell this year: the economy is

still sluggish, there’s rumor of war in the air and people might be a

little less likely to let the credit cards go crazy. But none of that

stopped sales, sales, sales this weekend.

You’ve got to wonder how many people look forward more to the day

after Thanksgiving than Turkey Day, itself. At the very least, all

that walking through stores, jostling for position and racing for the

very last sale item is healthier than sitting down to a gigantic

meal.

It lightens the wallet, too.
