Web site to help keep local waters clean

Residents and businesses of Newport-Mesa can now log on to Web

site to learn everything they need to know about keeping local waters

clean, including guidelines for complying with new rules to control

storm drain runoff.

The site, www.cleanwaternewport.com, contains five main

information areas. General information tells users about storm water

pollution -- how it affects local waters, laws governing runoff.

Links titled “Pollution Prevention for Residents,” “Pollution

Prevention for Businesses,” “Household Waste and Oil Recycling,”

“Pollution Reporting” and “Educational Materials” contain practical

information for everyone who wants to -- or is required to -- help

keep pollutants out of storm drains.

The Web site is part of the city of Newport Beach’s efforts to

comply with stringent new regulations to control the bay and ocean

pollution caused by runoff. For more information, call the city at

This BASH should have lots of music

More than 300 musicians on four different stages will perform big

band, swing, jazz, classical and concert performances as part of BASH

2002, the 32nd annual Orange County live music festival.

The live music and dancing take place beginning at noon and

continuing through early Monday morning with a special jazz jam

session at midnight. Big band performances will take place on two

stages with adjacent dance floors for 10 hours. A classical room with

have string ensembles, brass quintets, horn groups and pianists. And

a jazz room will offer a variety of styles throughout the day. Food

and other refreshments will be available.

The event takes place at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and

Tennis Club in Fashion Island, 900 Newport Center Drive, Newport

Beach. Tickets are $28 at the door, $12.50 for students 25 years and

younger with identification. Kids ages 12 and younger are admitted

free.

BASH 2002 is a benefit for the B. Douglas Sawtelle Music

Scholarship Funds and the Orange County Musicians’ Emergency Relief
