Natural causes suspected in death

A 56-year-old homeless man reportedly found dead in his car early

Saturday morning in a parking lot at Orange Coast College probably

died of natural causes, officials said.

Dennis Correll did not die under suspicious circumstances and

there is no ongoing police investigation, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Dale

Birney said.

Orange Coast College security officers found Correll at about 1

a.m. locked in his car, slumped over the wheel with the engine

running, OCC spokesman Jim Carnett said.

“Our officers surmised that he was probably driving down Fairview

and pulled into our lot,” he said.

Security officers found Correll in the parking lot adjacent to

Fairview Road right next to the college’s gymnasium.

The Orange County Coroner is still looking into what caused

Correll’s death, officials said. They said his nearest family member

is a daughter who lives in Lake Forest.
