Breakers take second

Tournament-champion Cypress proved too much for the Newport Beach

Breakers and won the Newport Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Breakers, a girls under-10 AYSO Soccer Region 97 All-Star team

consisting primarily of 9-year-olds, took second place in the weekend

tournament with victories over Los Alamitos and the Newport Beach

Heartbreakers before succumbing to Cypress.

The Breakers secured their second-place finish with a 4-0 victory

over the Heartbreakers Sunday.

Courtney McIntosh and Josie Jogwe each scored two goals for the

Breakers. Tempest Blaine and Monique Conant each had assists.

Defensively, the Breakers were led by Maria Swift, Lexi Jenkins,

Kelly Rorden, Christy Olhaver and Lauren Terry. The midfield was

anchored by Claire Castillo, Shannon Boler, Blaine and Conant.

The Breakers next compete in the Costa Mesa Classic at the Farm

Complex Dec. 28-29.
