Lightning wins opener, 49-40
What a difference a year makes for the Sage Hill High girls
basketball team.
The Lightning (1-0) got off to a good start this season with a
49-40 win over visiting Buena Park Wednesday. Carrie Clark paced Sage
Hill with 25 points.
“Last year at this time we got blown out by 30 points so to come
into our first game of the year and win is nice,” said Lightning
Coach Shanna Renkin.
The Lightning outscored the visitors, 14-5, in the second quarter
to take a 28-16 lead into halftime.
“We got past them in the second but by the fourth quarter we were
drained,” Renkin said.
Katie Puishys and Vicky Gutierrez scored 8 and 7 points,
respectively for the Lightning.
“(Gutierrez) has gotten a lot better, she’s stepped up for us big
time,” Renkin added.
