Mustangs fall, 2-0
Costa Mesa High’s boys soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to host
Cypress Wednesday, falling to 0-2.
Cypress scored its first goal after a Costa Mesa player mistakenly
headed the ball into his own net in the 25th minute in the first
half. Cypress tallied another score in the 52nd minute.
“The game was very even,” said Costa Mesa Coach Eugene Day. “That
first goal deflated us a little bit but both goals could have been
stopped. We made some mistakes and they capitalized on them and we
didn’t capitalize on their mistakes.”
Cypress outshot Mesa, 15-12, with Mesa’s Christian Lopez making
five saves in goal.
Mesa’s Tyler Waldron stopped crosses, Day added.
