WHAT HAPPENED:

The board appointed representatives to the Regional Occupational

Program.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Kathryn Turner and El Hathaway will continue to serve on the

Regional Occupational Program Board with Jan Vickers serving as an

alternate.

WHAT HAPPENED:

The school board awarded contracts totaling $9,772,575 for the

fall construction package at Laguna Beach High School.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The bidders approved by the board are USS Cal Builders, A 2 Z

Plumbing Services, Control Air and CSI Electronic. The bids were

$1,345,893 below the estimated bond budget allocation. Of that

amount, $450,000 will be set aside to provide for any increased costs

from plan changes or additional DSA requirements; $198,916 will be

transferred to various engineering costs; and the remaining $696,977

will go to the district’s contingency fund to provide increased

reserves during the construction period.

WHAT HAPPENED:

The board approved an agreement with UCMI Inc. to perform

inspections and testing during the modernization and new construction

at Laguna Beach High School for a cost not to exceed $347,249.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The California Division of the State Architect requires continuous

monitoring and testing of public school construction activities.

UCMI, Inc. will provide a Class 1 and Class 2 inspector on site

during the construction.

WHAT HAPPENED:

The board approved a change in the Independent Contractor

Agreement with John R. Byerly Inc. increasing funding by $10,000.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The agreement was originally approved in July 2002 for

geotechnical inspection and testing services for El Morro Elementary

School. But because the grading period took longer than expected, the

contract will increase the original payment by $10,000. The amount

will be paid for from the remaining Measure R Bond Soft Cost Budget,

with an additional $3,974 covered by district Contingency Funds.
