Gerald Spinn

Gerald Spinn, a former Newport Beach resident and husband of

former Daily Pilot librarian Anne Spinn, died Nov. 24 of a cardiac

arrest at his home in South Carolina. He was 69.

Mr. Spinn died two weeks after Mrs. Spinn’s death. They had been

married for 47 years. A memorial service for both of them was held

Dec. 3 at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Sullivan’s Island, S. C.

Mr. Spinn had a career as a radio personality, program director,

station general manager and advertising account executive. He began

his on-air career as a disc jockey in several Southeastern markets,

including Miami and New Orleans.

As an advertising account executive, Mr. Spinn specialized in work

with media clients for agencies including Bozell & Jacobs and

Memphis-based Pepper Tanner. Beginning in 1975, Mr. Spinn was the

senior account executive for Newport Beach-based Media Marketing

Associates.

A formally trained chef, Mr. Spinn also enjoyed a second career

cooking for several Orange County restaurants, including the Bahia

Corinthian Yacht Club in Corona del Mar.

Mr. Spinn is survived by sons Michael and Mark Spinn; brother

Creighton Spinn; and sister Eleanor Fox.

Alba L. Ellis

A funeral for Alba L. Ellis, a 55-year Costa Mesa resident, will

be held at 2 p.m. today at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach

Blvd., Westminster. Ms. Ellis died Friday of cardiovascular disease.

She was 87. She is survived by daughters Geraldine Gourley and Lynn

Leal; sons Ron, Jack and Robert Ellis; 17 grandchildren, nine

great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
