$900,000 boat sinks in Newport Harbor
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol deputies pulled out a
$900,000 boat that sunk in Newport Harbor early Tuesday morning,
officials said.
The 51-foot Tiara, named “Kelly Anne,” was docked at a marine
shipyard near Bayside and Harbor Island drives, Sgt. Ron Peoples
said.
“The owners had left it there for some work to be done,” he said.
“The owner of the shipyard came in Tuesday morning, and by then, the
boat had already sank.”
Peoples said it is unknown why the boat went under. He added that
a little fuel had spilled into the bay. That prompted Harbor Patrol
officials to notify county and state health agencies, which is
standard procedure in such situations, he said. The boat will be
salvaged, he said.
No damage done by apartment fire
No damage was reported in a fire that broke out in a Newport Beach
apartment building Tuesday, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to the call, which came at about 11:30 a.m.
Tuesday from the building in the 2500 block of San Joaquin Hills
Road, said Donna Boston, public information officer for the Newport
Beach Fire Department.
“It was basically a small fire that broke out in the fireplace
area,” she said. “I did not see any damage to the unit. The fire was
contained to the fireplace.”
No one was injured in the incident, Boston said.
