Well-traveled Seahawks down Ayala

Not even home for 24-hours after a five-day stay in Texas, the

Ocean View High boys’ basketball team took to the court Monday

afternoon to play Ayala in the first game of the Tournament of

Champions.

The good news was that Ocean View was at home, hosting the

prestigious tournament. Even better for the Seahawks was that they

were able to overcome a four-point halftime deficit to defeat the

Bulldogs, 66-54.

Ayala maintained a steady lead throughout the first half, and led

by as many as six points.

The Bulldogs settled for a 25-21 lead at the half, but fell behind

for good when Ocean View opened the second half with a 13-2 run to

forge a 34-27 lead.

The victory advanced the Seahawks into a Tuesday night game

against Leuzinger.

“I thought our kids did a good job,” co-coach Jim Harris said. “We

just got back from a successful trip in Texas and were able to come

back home and get another victory.”

The win was the fifth straight for Ocean View, which improved to

5-1.

The Seahawks returned home Sunday night from San Antonio, where

they had competed in the Lone Star Invitational.

They won the consolation championship, defeating Carrol High,

64-53.

Four Seahawks scored in double figures. Greg Okwudibonye scored 16

points, Matt Sargeant scored 14, Jeff Wilson scored 12, and Casey

Ortiz finished with 10.

In a 63-51 consolation semifinal win over O’Connor High,

Okwudibonye led the way with 15 points, and Ortiz and Sargeant each

finished with 12.
