CITIZEN ACADEMY

The Laguna Beach Police Department is accepting applications for

the eighth Citizen Academy through Feb. 12. The academy is a 12-week,

stressless course designed to provide community members with a better

understanding of the department. The topics covered will include the

history of the department, investigations, traffic enforcement,

gangs, narcotics, police K-9, a field trip to the Orange County Jail

and the police firing range. The academy will begin at 6 p.m., Feb.

GARDEN CLUB MEETING

“Growing Herbs and Vegetables in Containers” will be the program

topic for a holiday luncheon meeting of the Laguna Beach Garden Club.

Judi Brady, co-owner of Rusty Acres Herb Farm near Fallbrook, will

present the program. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the

Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive. Admission to

PARTNER YOGA

Yoga Place will hold a Partner Yoga/Thai Massage Workshop with

LAGUNA HOLIDAY PALETTE WORKSHOP

Laguna Outreach Community Arts will hold a class on the history of

the holiday palettes lining Laguna’s streets throughout the holiday

season, and the artists who create them, with September McGee.

Students will also get a chance to create their own mini-palette. The

class will meet at 2 p.m. at the Pottery Shack, 1212 S. Coast

Highway. The class costs $20, plus $5 for materials. Reservations are

HEALTH WORKSHOP

BREASTFEEDING CLASS

South Coast Medical Center will hold a breastfeeding class from

6:30 to 9:30 p.m. A certified lactation consultant will answer

questions about positioning, milk supply, breast soreness, pumping

and milk storage, working and breastfeeding. Fathers, grandmothers

and other support persons are encouraged to attend. Bring a doll and

pillow to help with proper positioning techniques. Pre-registration

is required. At least five couples must enroll, or the class will be

canceled and refunds issued. The class costs $20 per family. The

class will meet in classroom B at 31872 S. Coast Highway.

PARENTS, FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OF LESBIANS AND GAYS

The group will celebrate the holidays with a general meeting and

refreshments provided by members at 7 p.m. PFLAG is a secular

organization that celebrates diversity and envisions a society that

embraces everyone. The meeting will take place in the sun room of the

LAGUNA BEACH LIBRARY OPEN HOUSE

Local author Bette Anderson will sign copies of her first mystery

novel, “Close-ups”, from 5 to 7 p.m. Anderson is an amateur

photographer and former librarian who has lived in Laguna for 15

years. “Close-ups” is about a Laguna photographer whose pictures of a

wedding involve her in a murder. The library is at 363 Glenneyre St.

TIDE POOL JOURNAL WORKSHOP

Laguna Outreach Community Arts will hold a workshop as part of its

weekly Art Escapes program. Led by Jan Sattler, the group will create

a simple field journal while exploring the different sea creatures

and tide pools starting at 2 p.m. The class costs $20, plus $5 for
