Coaches pick Day as MVP
Costa Mesa High senior Sharon Day, who led Costa Mesa High girls
volleyball to the first league title in the program’s history, has
been named Golden West League Most Valuable Player by league coaches.
Day, a senior middle blocker, is among seven local players
recognized, including three additional first-team honorees.
Also representing Costa Mesa on the first team are outside hitter
Emily Abbott, middle blocker Kristen Bagwell and outside hitter Devin
Denman, all seniors.
Estancia’s Hillary Larson is a second-team all-league selection,
as are Costa Mesa sophomore setters Jackie Havens and Jenny Sparks.
Day was a second-team all-league performer in the Pacific Coast
League as a junior.
“There wasn’t any disagreement about her being the MVP of the
league,” Costa Mesa Coach Allison Salladin said. “She dominated
play.”
