Elizabeth Eddy, the first girl to score a touchdown in the

Newport-Mesa Junior All-American league, competed in the

All-Conference finale Dec. 7.

Eddy, 11, earned a spot on the Orange County all-conference team

that lost to Los Angeles County’s squad, 19-12. Though she made a

name for herself as a running back, Eddy played as a defensive back,

while her Seahawk teammate Buzzy Yokayama was an all-conference

defensive lineman.

Eddy played in portions of the first quarter, then the entire

fourth quarter. She caused a fumble that led to an Orange County

recovery with about four minutes remaining, giving her team a chance

to tie the game. But a pass fell incomplete, as time ran out, ending

the comeback.
