Mustangs rout Saddleback, 9-1

Sophomore forward Jenny Sparks had three goals and one assist and

freshman Jasmin Day added two goals and three assists to help the

Costa Mesa High girls soccer team earn a 9-1 Golden West League

victory over visiting Saddleback Thursday.

Sharon Day chipped in two goals and one assist, while Vera Gale

added one goal and one assist to help the Mustangs improve to 7-1-2,

2-0 in league.

Stacy Krikorian rounded out the scoring, while Nilani Duarte

chipped in one assist.

Goalie Kaitlyn Gentling made six saves for the winners, who do not

play again until they host former Pacific Coast League rival Corona

del Mar Jan. 4.

Estancia High’s girls soccer team dropped a 9-0 Golden West League

decision Thursday to host Ocean View.

Elise Carroll and Ruth Chevaro played well for the Eagles (1-3-3,

0-1-0 in league), said Estancia Coach Nadine Rajabi.

Estancia was without Dustinne Lau due to an injured ankle and one

of its forwards due to disciplinary reasons, Rajabi added.

The Newport Harbor girls frosh-soph soccer team qualified for the

Final Four of the Edison Charger Cup with two wins last weekend.

The Sailors defeated Laguna Hills, 8-0 in Game 1 and beat

University, 1-0, with a goal scored with eight minutes remaining in

the second half, in the second contest Dec. 14.

Newport plays Dana Hills Saturday with a chance to move on to the

championship game later that day.

Strong offensive attacks were led by Amanda Laz, Malorie McMains,

Jennifer Ryder, Courtney Hanson and Hallie Mitchell.

The midfield and defense were anchored by Kristin Baker, Stephanie

Disano, Lyndsi Foster, Jessica Gavilan, Paz Krotee, Sienna Palmer,

Raeanne Pfieifer, Jenna Riggio and Chelsea Ward.

Goalie Shannon Forsythe had two shutouts last weekend.
