Strikers claim championship

The Strikers still haven’t lost.

The girls under-14 soccer team from AYSO Region 120 scored a 2-0 victory over South Irvine Dec. 12 to win the Area Q Regional

Championship and improve to 17-0 on the season.

The girls advance to sectional playoffs held in March against

teams from Southern California.

Against Irvine, Carina Merida scored mid-way through the second

quarter and Emily Leece followed a few minutes later with a goal on a

penalty kick. Taylor Carpenter was knocked down as she was attempting

a shot to secure the penalty kick.

Goalkeeper Ashton Henderson preserved the shutout behind

protection from Julia Jaroslowski, Justine Delfin, Kyra Molter and

Mayra Roman.

The midfield was controlled by Karyn Hay and Aubrey Brown, who

sent passes to Chantel O’Toole at the front.
