Four Tars first-team All-Sea View

Newport Harbor High senior tailback Dartangan Johnson, a repeat

first-team All-Sea View League football selection, is among nine

Sailors recognized on the coaches’ all-league teams.

Johnson, who rushed for 786 yards and 10 touchdowns on 119 carries

in five league games, is joined on the first-team offense by senior

quarterback Michael McDonald, senior tackle A.J. Slater and sophomore

receiver Spencer Link.

Senior middle linebacker Fernando Castorena is the lone Newport

Harbor player on the first-team defense.

Senior receiver Michael Toole, senior cornerback Ben Soza, senior

offensive tackle Chris Badorek and senior defensive end Mac Posey

represent Newport Harbor on the second team.

McDonald, a second-team honoree as a safety in 2001, completed 58

of 109 passes for 851 yards and seven touchdowns, with only one

interception, against league foes. He also rushed 28 times for 195

yards and three TDs, including a 104-yard, two-touchdown output in a

victory over Woodbridge.

Link caught 21 passes for 334 yards and four TDs against Sea View

competition and is the only sophomore among the 53 players named

all-league.

Toole caught eight passes for 106 yards in five league contests

for the Sailors, who finished in a three-way tie for second place

with a 3-2 league mark.

Badorek was also a second-team honoree in 2001.

Mike Liti (Foothill) and Terrell Vinson (Irvine), both senior

running backs, share Offensive Player of the Year laurels, while

Foothill senior end David Goto is the Defensive Player of the Year.

Foothill, in its first season in the league, finished atop the

standings and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division VI title

game.

Coaches slot their top players into a predetermined number of

all-league spots, based on the league standings, without regard to

balancing offensive and defensive honorees.
