Air Force Airman Justin M. Perkins, grandson of Marlene and Donald

LaMaster of Costa Mesa, graduated from basic military training at

Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Training lasted six weeks and

included study in the Air Force mission, organization and military

customs and courtesies. The airmen were also required to perform

drill and ceremony marches, and receive physical training, rifle

marksmanship training, field training exercises and special training

in human relations ... Costa Mesa residents Alan Balderas Limon and

Sean Michael Moss graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Dec. 14.

Limon, who received his bachelor’s in business administration, and

Moss, who received his bachelor’s in city and regional planning,

graduated with about 720 other candidates, 60 of whom earned master’s

degrees. Architect Rush N. Hill II, chairman of a Newport Beach group

of service companies, was one of the three speakers at the ceremony

... Gerhard Schnuerer of Newport Beach won the Santa’s Choice Award

during the third annual Holiday Car Show and Pedal Car Invitational

on Dec. 8 at the Orange County Market Place in Costa Mesa. Schnuerer

also won the award for Best Motorcycle with his 1937 BMW R-12,

receiving a special award for his holiday decorations and playing

Santa Claus during the event. Three-year-old P.J. Rollins of Costa

Mesa, who also attended the event, won third place in the Kid’s Pedal

Car Races ... Costa Mesa resident and Estancia High School graduate

Tai Anh Thai, Newport Beach resident and Corona del Mar High School

graduate Dustin Scott Hodges and Newport Beach resident and Newport

Harbor High School graduate Warren William Shaeffer were accepted

into Harvard College and will join about 1,650 students for classes

next year. Students, who were selected on an array of academic and

extracurricular accomplishments, will have the opportunity to work

with a faculty that includes 39 Nobel laureates. Harvard College,

which was founded in 1636, is the oldest institution of higher

education in the United States ... Sarah B. Brown of Balboa and

Matthew R. Canada of Newport Beach graduated from Azusa Pacific on

Dec. 13 and 14, respectively. Brown, who received her bachelor’s in

psychology, and Canada, who received his bachelor’s in business

administration, joined about 400 other graduates for the university’s

winter commencement. Azusa Pacific is a comprehensive Christian

evangelical university, with a student enrollment that exceeds 7,600.
