Hornets (3-0) cruising along
The Hornets improved to 3-0 this season after a 71-38 win over the Knicks in boys seventh- and eighth-grade Newport-Mesa National Junior
Basketball action.
Thomas Dialynas led the scoring output with 17 and Chase Pinesett
tallied 11 for the Hornets.
Timothy Regan played strong on defense as did Erik Rask (three
points) and Kevin Rask (nine points).
J.P. Gormly (10 points), Austin Apramian (five points), with Gus
Ellis and Andy Rovzar (each with three points) rounded out the Hornet
scoring.
In girls third- and fourth-grade action:
* Golden Hawks 27, Sparks 20
Ellie Nadal led the Hawks with 20 points and teammate Kelsey Woo
collected 19 rebounds for the victors. Chelsea Barth had 11 steals in
the win.
Alexis Aiello led the Sparks with 11 points and Duran Sharp
contributed four.
* Wizards 15, Magic 15
Brooke Lux led the Wizards with nine points while Allie Moskovits
and Mary McKenna each had five points for the Wizards in the
three-overtime game.
* Irvine Timberwolves 20, Newport Lakers 17
Kelsey Carrido led Newport with 10 points and Megan Griffin
tallied three points in the loss. Valerie Martin played smothering
defense. Kelly Hsu paced Irvine with seven points.
