Notch another win for Newport

The seventh-grade Newport-Mesa boys National Junior Basketball

All-Net team improved its record to 4-0 with a 49-46 victory over

Fullerton.

Jamie McGee led Newport with 14 points and six rebounds while

Robbie Boyer had nine points. Joe Eberhard (eight), P.J. Simpson

(four), Kyle Caldwell (four and six rebounds), Will Kelly (four), and

John Swift and Ali Meshkin, each with two points, contributed to

Newport’s scoring.

Newport trailed for the first two and a half quarters before going

to the full-court press.

The team will be participating in the National Junior Basketball

Holiday Classic this weekend and will resume division play in

January.

* In eighth-grade girls All-Net action:

Mission Viejo 48, Newport 30

Taylor Holden and Brittany DeYan led Newport with 10 points each

while Allie Duernberger and Ivy Melo added four points apiece for

Newport, who scored only two points in the third quarter after

trailing, 30-18 at the half.
