* Alta Laguna: A rat with an Easter egg on its head was reported

in a resident’s back yard in the 2000 block at 12:18 p.m.

May 13

* Irvine Cove Drive: A man being transported by an officer got

out of his seat belt and escaped. He ran down the street in handcuffs

and jumped into the back seat of a stopped convertible. The driver

and officer subdued the man in the 100 block at 7:07 p.m.

May 27

* South Coast Highway: Police were called when a guest locked

herself in a hotel bathroom in the 400 block at 12:25 a.m.

July 3

* Linden Street: A resident was given a warning after he

reportedly yelled at a Realtor and hosed him with water in the 400

block at 9:27 a.m.

July 11

* Temple Hills Drive: A smoking port-a-potty was reported in the

2300 block at 8:46 a.m.

July 12

* Laguna Canyon Road: Someone threw plums all over a rented truck

in the 1900 block at 9:17 a.m. The renter believed it was a result of

parking problems near the festival.

July 26

* South Coast Highway: Six high school students were taken in for

questioning after an officer observed them with a marijuana pot in

the drive-through of a local restaurant in the 1200 block after midnight. The young men were lectured on the dangers of drugs and

released to their parents at 3:30 a.m.

Aug. 14

* Temple Hills Drive: A resident reported a runaway fire-goat

hanging out on his balcony in the 2000 block at 3:20 p.m.

Aug. 21

* Sleepy Hollow Beach: A topless sunbather was arrested on

suspicion of assaulting a police officer at 2:37 p.m. An officer

asked her to put her top on, and she refused. She slapped him on the

arm and then knocked his bike over when he told her that her driver’s

license had expired and he would be sending it to the DMV.

Aug. 29

* Van Dyke Drive: A resident called police after he left his

briefcase and computer outside his home in the 900 block at 9:17 a.m.

An officer found it and brought it to the station for safekeeping.

Sept. 4

* Laguna Canyon Road: Police and firefighters responded to a

medical aid call in the 21000 block at 1:45 p.m. A naked 21-year-old

San Clemente woman was in a tree. They got her down and paramedics

transported her to Hoag Hospital for treatment.

Sept. 17

* Cleo Street: An officer on patrol saw a 19-year-old man running

from a grocery store carrying a case of beer in the 200 block at

10:45 p.m. The man’s ride took off. The officer arrested the suspect

on suspicion of petty theft.

Sept. 27

* Ocean Avenue: A restaurant manager called police after a

transient allegedly threw a skinned bird at patrons in the 200 block

at 5:05 p.m.

* La Mirada: A resident called police to report that the

neighbor’s wind chimes were too loud in the 900 block at 12:46 p.m.

An officer checked it out and determined that the chimes were not a

nuisance. The owner took them down anyway.

Sept. 29

* Laguna Canyon Road: Police responded to a call about a petty

theft in the 20000 block at 1:21 p.m. A customer allegedly took off

with a pumpkin after she had been informed that it was not for sale.

Total loss: $1.

Oct. 4

* Ocean Front: A resident heard noises from a vacant unit in the

1000 block at 10:42 p.m. Police found a transient taking a shower and

arrested the 39-year-old man on an outstanding warrant on suspicion

of illegal lodging.

Nov. 9

* Laguna Canyon Road: Police received a call that a transient was

demanding to be let into a party in the 600 block at 1:02 p.m.

* Jewell Avenue: A resident reported that his neighbor’s dog had

been barking since 6 a.m. in the 31000 block at 8:48 a.m. When he

tried to complain to the owner, he was told to buy ear plugs.

Dec. 8

* Monaco Drive: An officer was called to intervene when a

Christmas tree delivery service accidentally made a delivery to the

wrong address in the 2400 block at 8:42 p.m. The homeowner refused to

hand it over. The delivery company agreed to bill the homeowner.

Dec. 11

* Ocean Way: Police arrested a 24-year-old Laguna man on

suspicion of obstructing an officer after he reportedly heckled

officers who were conducting a field sobriety test in the 200 block

at 2:11 a.m. He told officers to take him to jail, too. After he was

booked, he was released on his own recognizance.

Dec. 16

* Baja Street: A resident reported that the neighbor’s dog was

getting electrocuted by its shock collar in the 1000 block at 3:19

p.m. The caller believed that the wind and rain was causing the

collar to short out. An animal services officer was called to the

scene.
