Laguna poloists earn Top 10 ranking
Laguna Beach High’s girls’ water polo team is making its name
known in its first full season playing at the Division II level.
The Breakers, tournament tested in the third month of the season,
entered the winter break with a No. 5 ranking in the latest CIF
Southern Section Division II poll.
It is the team’s first year in Division II, having made the jump
from Division IV.
Pacific Coast League rival Corona del Mar heads the poll at No. 1.
The Sea Kings were followed by No. 2 Villa Park. University,
another PCL rival, came in at No. 3.
In front of Laguna was No. 4, Canyon of Anaheim.
Santa Monica, Mira Costa, El Dorado, Peninsula and Fullerton held
spots 6 through 10.
Laguna, coming off an appearance in the Villa Park Tournament,
will next compete in another top-notch event, the Tru-West
Invitational.
The event, hosted by Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar highs, will
take place today and Saturday.
When they return to school after the holiday break, the Breakers
will host Sunny Hills on Jan. 8 in a 3:45 p.m. nonleague match.
No other Laguna Beach High athletic team was ranked in the various
winter sports polls released on Monday.
