Steve and Kaysee Ferguson of Costa Mesa won the Best of Show award

at the third annual Holiday Car Show and Pedal Car Invitational held

at the Orange County Marketplace on Dec. 8. The Fergusons won the

award for their 1932 Ford Roadster and took home $200 in cash along

with the Best in Show trophy ... Waleed Afify of Costa Mesa completed

a comprehensive course on priority senior issues. The course was

conducted by the Society of Certified Senior Advisors, a national

organization that has trained more than 8,000 professionals in all 50

states and the District of Columbia. Afify, now a certified senior

advisor himself, took this educational step to become a professional

leader in meeting the key needs and issues of senior citizens and

will participate annually in continuing education through the

organization ... Alan Fenstermacher of Corona del Mar became an Eagle

Scout after completing his final project at Riley Park in Coto de

Caza. His project consisted of making initial improvements within the

park by constructing picnic tables. After planning for six months,

Fenstermacher began work on the tables by securing supplies, sanding

and painting the wood and constructing one table with handicap

access. Fenstermacher, a 16-year-old junior at Santa Margarita High

School, completed the project with the assistance of his scout

master, other scouts from troop 818 and friends ... Sanford Coggins,

a vice president at Merrill Lynch in Newport Beach, received the

Merrill Lynch Lifetime Community Leadership Award for his ongoing

commitment to community service. To qualify for the award, a person

must be in leadership roles and in significant community

organizations and must exemplify the company’s principle of

responsible citizenship. Coggins is active in a number of civic and

community organizations, such as the Los Angeles Urban League, the

100 Black Men of America and the Orange County Regional Purchasing

Council. He also teaches a weekly character enhancement class for

high school students in the AWANA Clubs International in his spare

time.
