Surf City woman fends off attacker

A 24-year-old Huntington Beach woman fended off a male attacker

Thursday evening after he grabbed her from behind at her apartment

doorstep, said Sgt. Gary Meza of the Huntington Beach Police

Department.

The suspect, who escaped, was described as a 5-foot-10 Latino man

wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and dark shoes.

The assault occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 8100

block of San Angelo Drive.

As the woman began to unlock the door of her apartment building

the man grabbed her from behind, police said. She kicked the man

several times, freeing herself from his grasp. When he tried to grab

her again, she kicked him again. The suspect then fled from the

scene, police said.

The woman received some scratches.

A motive is not known at this time, Meza said.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Huntington

beach Police Detective Bureau at (714) 536-5951.

Burglar caught napping on job

Police on Thursday arrested a man found passed out in a home and

later dubbed him the “three bears burglar.”

After breaking into a house in the 17000 block of Wild Rose Lane,

24-year-old Jose Rodriguez of Huntington Beach allegedly began piling

up jewelry, leather jackets and electronic equipment valued at

$2,000, Sgt. Gary Meza said.

But instead of fleeing the scene with the loot, Rodriguez raided

the house’s liquor cabinet, Meza said.

Police say Rodriguez drank two bottles of champagne, three bottles

of Smirnoff Ice and a beer before passing out on a bed in the house.

The family returned from a holiday party at 1:45 a.m. Thursday to

discover Rodriguez passed out in their home.

Rodriguez had broken a front window on the house. Some of the

property was stacked outside the house.

Rodriguez was taken to an Orange County jail. He is expected to

face felony burglary charges, Meza said.
