Getting back to the rat race
It’s all over. Soon the lights will be down and the toys all put
away to shelves and cubby holes -- because it’s too painful to put
them away right after Christmas, not after all the struggle to find
them and put them together.
Families will return to their homes. Now, it’s time to get back to
the important things -- like work. No more of this knocking off for
the day.
And we mustn’t neglect our civic issues. We can put all our energy
into re-figuring out what to do about the Village Entrance, fighting
to get the city corporation yard moved to ACT V or making sure that
never happens. Strange how that issue seemed to have been dealt with
already. We were assured it was settled. Now, we can see if it will
be another 20 years before a decision is made about the Village
Entrance -- perhaps people are just having too much fun in the fight.
Having school back in the scene will be a blast. Getting into the
classroom and the extra-curricular activities of students is one of
the fun parts of community journalism. And let’s hope Laguna’s sports
teams have as much success in play as they did getting their mascot
name changed.
Here’s to getting back to normal and hoping that some remnants of
the spirit of the season can stick with us. So, as we head off to the
council meeting, keep the idea of the human bond in your mind and
remember that we’re all in this together.
