Unwelcome bridges, photos

I have always wondered why Robert Graham has been such an ardent

supporter of a bridge on 19th Street and have just found out that he

is a resident of Mesa Verde. Gisler Avenue, which is also considered

a possibility for a bridge, is in his area. Of course, he doesn’t

want it in his backyard; put it in ours.

The talk about how this bridge is going to put a lot of money into

the Westside is hooey. This will become a speedway, like Victoria

Street, primarily for commuters who will be in too much of a hurry to

get to their destination and, in turn, in a hurry to get home and do

their shopping in familiar haunts. And, let’s remember, money isn’t

everything.

I remember what residents on Victoria went through when the city

took over properties on that street and I would say the Westside has

done its share to speed people on their way. Let’s give Mesa Verde an

opportunity to enjoy the traffic, noise and dirt generated by traffic

and, not incidentally, lower property values.

How depressing to open the Daily Pilot on New Years Day and see,

again, a photo of Robert Graham , the man who seems obsessed with

ruining our neighborhood. What on earth is the point? No text, just

his picture, right where we walk every morning to Talbert park, which

would be destroyed if it were up to him.

How many times are you going to publish the picture of Bob Graham

in the squat position on 19th Street (Mailbag, Wednesday)? I think

three times in one month is enough.

A nice change of pace might be one of him mooning the camera on

Gisler Avenue, which would express his feelings about that bridge as

well.
