Schafer heading sanitary district board

Costa Mesa Sanitary District board member Arlene Schafer has been

appointed president of the board.

Schafer was sworn in Dec. 12, along with new vice president Greg

Woodside and new secretary Jim Ferryman.

Sanitary District board meetings are held the second Thursday of

every month at Costa Mesa City Hall, 77 Fair Drive. For more

Ebersole to sing cabaret at the Center

Tony Award winner and Emmy nominee Christine Ebersole will perform

in the Elvin and Marjorie Shane Klein Cabaret Series at the Orange

County Performing Arts Center. Shows are at 7 p.m. nightly Jan. 28 to

Feb. 1 in Founders Hall.

Tickets cost $49 and are on sale at the Center Box Office, online

City recycling greeting cards

Residents of Costa Mesa can recycle their greeting cards by

dropping off the front portion of the cards at any of seven

locations.

The city’s sanitation district sends the card fronts to St. June’s

Ranch for Children, a nonprofit home for abused and homeless children

in Boulder City, Nev. The children glue the card fronts on new paper

and sell them. More than a million cards are collected each year.

Drop-off bins are at these locations until Jan. 31: City Hall, in the lobby, 77 Fair Drive; Costa Mesa Senior Center, 695 W. 19th St.;

Ramsay Rexall Drugs, 2246 Newport Blvd.; White Front Pharmacy, 801

“B” Baker St.; Costa Mesa Employees Federal Credit Union, 2701 Harbor

Riders of the Purple Sage to play at Oasis

The Riders of the Purple Sage will play at the Oasis Senior Center
