HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Costa Mesa High girls soccer team

continued to roll through Golden West League competition with a 2-0

victory at Ocean View Tuesday.

Senior Sharon Day boomed in a 35-yard shot for the first goal, off

an assist from sophomore Vera Gale, in the 20th minute.

Day then collected the assist on freshman Jasmin Day’s insurance

tally in the 55th minute to improve the Mustangs, tied for the No. 10

spot in the CIF Southern Section Division III poll, to 9-1-2, 3-0 in

league.

Costa Mesa goalies Kindra Bailey and Kaitlyn Gentling split

playing time, as well as the winners’ four saves, to record the

shutout.

Mustangs Coach Dan Johnston also credited the play of Stacy

Krikorian, Kara Jenkins, Valarie Gomez, Nilani Duarte and sweeper

Devin Denman for the victory.

In a nonleague game Tuesday:

Laguna Beach 9, Sage Hill 0

The Sage Hill School girls soccer team fell behind, 6-0, in the

first half and could not recover in a 9-0 nonleague loss on the

Lightning’s campus.

Sophomore goalie Laura Gordon recorded 18 saves for Sage Hill

(1-6).
