Newport rolls

Newport Harbor High’s club surfing team (11-1-1) was a 68-58

nonleague winner over Edison Thursday morning in shoulder high, 1-2

foot surf at 56th St.

Freshman Brightton Brandenburger was a short board heat winner,

and Geoff Rill, Morgan Hill, Will Anderson and Alex Knost took

seconds. David Neira, Erica Hosseini and Brett Catron were third,

Tommy Holbrook fourth, Matt Doheny and Bronson Hovnanian fifth and

Joey Head sixth.

Hosseini and Amy Lowry went 1-2 in the girls long/short board.

Knost, Chase Smith and Catron went 1-3-5 in the long board.

Michael Beck, Justin Kast and Dan Kretschmar were 2-4-5 in the

body board.

The next nonleague meet, leading up to the state championships

Feb. 22-23, is Thursday against Dana Hills at 56th St.
