Sage Hill girls fall, boys win

Host Sage Hill School dropped its Academy League girls basketball

opener to Brethren Christian, 46-30, Friday.

The Lightning (8-2), opened the game with three returning

all-league players on the bench as they were being disciplined for

missing practice. The Sage Hill starting lineup scored just nine

points, while Katie Puishys came off the bench to lead the hosts with

12 points.

Brethren Christian, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division

IV-A, led, 11-7, after the first quarter, but Sage Hill outscored the

Warriors, 8-6, in the second period.

Capitalizing on some poor outside shooting by Sage Hill, the

Warriors outscored the Lightning in each of the final two quarters to

pull away for the decisive victory.

It was the second straight loss for Sage Hill, which opened with

victories in its first eight contests.

Puishys had 14 rebounds, while teammate Haywood Wright, who

battled foul trouble, collected 13 rebounds to go with her five

points.

Sage Hill will visit Brethren Christian Jan. 30 to open the second

round of league play.

In the boys game Friday:

Sage Hill opened its Academy League season with a victory over

visiting Brethren Christian, though details were not available at

press time.
