Accident claims one, driver arrested

One man was killed and another injured early Sunday morning when

their Chevrolet Camaro struck a tree on Newport Boulevard and

Industrial Way in Costa Mesa.

David Robison, 28, of Rancho Santa Margarita, was pronounced dead

at the scene after the car, driven by 28-year-old Phillip Steyerman

of Monterey Park, went off the road and struck a tree.

Police suspect Steyerman was speeding as he drove northbound on

Newport Boulevard at 1:15 a.m. causing him to lose control of the

car, said Sgt. Larry Hicks of the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Steyerman was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana

for a concussion and broken clavicle and was arrested on suspicion of

driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, Hicks said.
