Newport firm introduces three new law partners

The full-service law firm Irell & Manella LLP, which has offices

in Los Angeles and Newport Beach, announced the election of three

partners to the firm as of Jan. 1.

David C. Codell, Roman Melnik and Elizabeth Kimberly Penfil were

named to the positions.

Codell, who is a member of the litigation, appellate and

intellectual property workgroups, focuses on entertainment,

constitutional and appellate litigation. Melnik, a member of the

intellectual property litigation and appellate workgroups, focuses on

patent and trade-secret litigation and related counseling. While

Penfil, a member of the appellate, art law, intellectual property and

litigation workgroups, focuses on complex business litigation in

state and federal courts with a focus on high technology and

art-related matters.

The firm is a commercial law partnership firm with a professional

legal staff of 245 attorneys, which includes 88 partners. It was

recently named New Economy Leader by “The American Lawyer” magazine

and has been recognized as one of the recipients of the top 15

defense verdicts in 1999 by “The National Law Journal.”

FountainGlen Properties obtains new acreage

Newport Beach-based FountainGlen Properties LP recently purchased

9.2 net acres in Los Angeles County for $6.95 million from Stevenson

Ranch Venture, LLC.

The company, which has nine senior apartment communities across

the state, plans on beginning construction on the rental apartment

community during the second quarter of 2003 and expects its

completion in the fall of 2004.

FountainGlen’s portfolio and development properties represent

2,949 apartment units for active seniors that provide residents with

an environment where they can experience physical activities along

with social interaction.
