Bombers honored as good sports

The H.B. Bombers, a boys’ under-9 Division All-Star team out of

AYSO Region 56, put on solid showings at two recent tournaments.

At the Costa Mesa Classic, the Bombers placed fourth after

allowing just one goal off a penalty kick in four games.

More importantly, the team won out over 49 other competing teams

for the tournament’s “Best Sportsmanship” trophy.

In a previous tournament held in Beverly Hills, the Bombers played

up a division and won two of three matches.

The H.B. Bombers All-Star team is Dillon Brown, Kevin Caskey,

Michael Chislock, Austin DiCambio, Hyden Franciscus, Garrett Haar,

Jachin Hamborg, Madison Hayden, Blake Mooney, Ryan Shean, Javas Singh

and Sloan Varing.

In girls’ AYSO action:

Sour Power wins four games in Area K playoffs

Sour Power has won four consecutive games in Area K playoff

action.

The girls’ under-12 Division champions out of Region 55 defeated

Region 117 and Region 517 last Saturday.

In a 6-1 win over Region 117, Devon Shinn paved the way with four

goals and an assist, and Vanessa Calderon and Jennifer Hu each scored

one goal.

Ashley Butcher paced the balanced offensive attack, and goalie

Tori Martinez turned in a strong performance.

Later in the day, Sour Power blanked Region 517.

Shinn again paved the way with two goals and a pair of assists,

and Hu scored the other two goals.

Chelsea Rebollar played a strong game at sweeper, and Hayley

Lytle, Maddie McKinley, Olivia Poss and Katie Brunner led the

defensive shutout.

Sour Power, coached by Marcos Rebollar, scored two previous

shutout victories in area competition and is now 4-0 in Area K play

and 15-1 for the season.

The first was a 1-0 defeat of Region 1335, the game decided on

Shinn’s penalty kick.

The second win was a 3-0 blanking of Burgundy Fire, the second

place team out of Region 55. Shinn scored twice and Amber Soedel

scored once.

Rebollar again had a strong game at sweeper, Martinez was solid in

the net, and Chanelle Neal keyed an outstanding defensive effort by

Sour Power.
