Do some antiquing in West Newport

Some of Newport’s best antiques can be found in an industrial area

in West Newport at Jefferies Ltd. It also specializes in

labor-intensive custom picture framing, fine prints, paintings and

decorative arts. More than a dozen antique dealers have filled the

5,000-square-foot showroom with beautiful antiques, lighting and

accessories. Many of the dealers also have stores of their own.

Asian, European and American pieces are available. Good deals are

found here, especially compared with prices in Los Angeles. Specialty

framing techniques are done on the premises. All of the frames and

moldings are hand-pressed and handmade; French matting is used, where

all of the lines are hand drawn in a watercolor wash; and 22-karat

gold leaf can be applied to frames. Also popular are beautiful custom

stands for trays and boxes. Dealers represented include Tom

Stansbury, Lyman Drake, Robert Yeakel, Nobili Antiques, Doug Stotts,

Patina, Ardenia Capanelli, South of France, Phil Spellman, Mary Jane

Edalatpour, Inger Osterea, Mary H. Tindukasiri, China Source and

Marian Palley. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 11 a.m. to 4

p.m. Saturday. 852 Production Place, Newport Beach. (949) 642-4154.

THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER

Beautiful flowers can be found at Oiseaux Flowers, which opened in

November on Old Newport Boulevard. Owner Kate Jeremias was thrilled

feel at Oiseaux Flowers is meant to resemble the little flower shops

Jeremias loves in Paris. Mini bouquets are its specialty, as well as

unique containers, jars and vases and a broad mix of interesting

flowers that are selected in Los Angeles and Carlsbad. Blooming fruit

branches are currently featured including peach, apple and quince.

Gift items available include specialty soaps, cosmetic boxes and

papers. Free deliveries to Hoag Hospital. 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
