ON THE AGENDA

FAIRVIEW PARK

Council members tonight will consider transferring the periodic

review of the Fairview Park Master Plan to the parks and recreation

commission.

At the Dec. 16 meeting, the City Council evaluated the annual

report on the city’s large and rugged park. It was then that council

members suggested the future review by their appointed parks

commissioners.

To formally transfer the responsibility, the council must revise a

section of the City Council policy to reflect the change.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Council members are expected to delegate the assessment of

Fairview Park to the Parks and Recreation Commission.

SIGNAL IMPROVEMENTS

The city’s transportation department is requesting the council

approve a $29,566 contract to upgrade the design of traffic signals

along Newport Boulevard and Bristol Street.

The project is split into three segments and will be paid for

largely by Measure M funds from the Orange County Transportation

Authority. the city’s share of the entire project is $65,000.

The design phase, which is up for approval tonight, consists of

hiring a consultant to plan, specify and estimate the cost of various

traffic signal hardware upgrades at four intersections.

Transportation officials recommend hiring Parsons Transportation

Group for the design work. The anticipated upgrades will enable the

traffic signal systems to interface with the city’s master signal

network.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The City Council is expected to approve the contract.

BOULEVARD BANNERS

The City Council is looking to decide on a banner design for

various businesses along the northbound side Newport Boulevard

between 19th Street and Mesa Drive.

One of the council’s community objectives calls for 46 street

banner to be installed along that strip of the major thoroughfare. In

November, business owners along the street were asked to comment on

three proposed designs and the Cultural Arts Committee reviewed their

input. The committee recommended the second place choice, with some

minor changes.

It will cost $12,400 to design the selected banner.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Council members are expected to follow the recommendation of the

Cultural Arts Committee.
