‘UCI’ wins Donnely Cup

The California South State Amateur Association team, which

features eight UC Irvine players and is coached by UCI head coach

George Kuntz and assistant coach Chris Volk, won the national

championship at the Donnely Cup in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

The California South State Amateur Association team won the

national championship by beating Nebraska 6-0 and Conneticut 3-0.

It is the first time in nine years that California has won the

national championship on the men’s side.

Jason Thompson, UCI’s 2002 team Most Valuable Player, was named

the US National Amatuer Tournament 2003 Most Valuable Player selected

by the national amatuer team coach, the coaches, and national

administrators.
