Anteaters swim past Northridge

The UC Irvine Anteaters defeated the Cal State Northridge Matadors

173.5-66.5 in the women’s competition and 178-61 in the men’s

competition at the Anteater Aquatics Center. In the women’s

competition freshman Lara Bjargardottir of Iceland broke her fifth

school record of the season with a time of 2:19.24 in the 200-yard

breaststroke.

Bjargardottir also won the 200 individual medley with a time of

2:07.00. In the 200 butterfly, sophomore Alexis Sheridan and

sophomore Molly Donelan each broke the school record previously

broken earlier this season by Donelan.

Sheridan edged out Donelan for the top-time with a time of 2:07.57

while Donelan finished with a time of 2:07.63, six hundredths of a

second behind Sheridan. Sheridan also won the 200 free (1:55.72) and

the 500 free (5:10.19) for the Anteaters. Freshman Katina Economides

won the 100 free with a time of 54.45. Economides tied CSUN swimmer

Selin Bulbul with times of 24.99 for the tie in the 50 free. In

diving action that took place on Friday, senior Melissa Milmine won

the one-meter (232.35 points) and the three-meter (230.78)

competitions.

In the men’s competition freshman Robert Noh won the 1,000 free

(9:53.58) and the 500 free (4:48.81). Junior Phil Garcia won the 50

free (21.34) and the 100 free (46.35). Sophomore Gonny Shimura won

the 200 free (1:45.56) and the 200 back (1:57.26) for the ‘Eaters. In

diving action that took place Friday, freshman Anton Slobounov won

the one-meter (289.05 points) and the three-meter (273.68) for UCI.

The Anteaters will take this week off before heading North to take

on Big West rivals Cal Poly Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. in San Luis Obispo and

UC Santa Barbara Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. in Santa Barbara.
