Mesa survives scare, pulls out 1-0 victory
The Costa Mesa High girls soccer team got a scare from host
Saddleback Monday, but came away with a 1-0 Golden West League
victory.
Sophomore Nilani Duarte headed in a corner kick from senior Sharon
Day in the 25th minute for the game’s only goal.
Mesa, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division III, had four
saves from sophomore Kindra Bailey, who went the distance to record
the shutout and help the Mustangs improve to 14-1-2, 8-0-0 in league.
She typically shares time with junior Kaitlyn Gentling, but Gentling
suffered a hip injury in practice and is sidelined indefinitely,
Coach Dan Johnston said.
Nora Garcia made seven saves for the Roadrunners (6-8-0, 4-3-0),
who lost to second-place Ocean View, 1-0, Thursday.
Costa Mesa hosts Ocean View Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.
Estancia girls fall at Ocean View, 2-1
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Estancia High girls soccer team dropped a
2-1 Golden West League verdict at Ocean View Monday.
Sophomore Elise Carroll scored for the Eagles, on a play set up by
freshman Marina Abdul and senior Karleen Curran.
Ocean View improved to 5-1-0 in league, heading into Wednesday’s
duel against first-place Costa Mesa.
