Mustangs win in double OT
SANTA ANA -- Costa Mesa High’s girls basketball team survived an
18-2 run by host Saddleback in the fourth quarter, a 5-0 Saddleback
spurt at the start of the first overtime and a 33-point burst by
Tanisha Lewis en route to a 73-68 Golden West League victory Monday
night.
The Mustangs, led by Rhondi Naff’s 38 points, sent it into
overtime on a pair of Naff free throws with 0:30 left in regulation,
and in the second overtime, jumped out to a 64-57 lead on two buckets
by Naff and a three-pointer by Susy Trujillo.
Saddleback was unable to offset the jump and Cassey Brick knocked
down three free throws and Naff added four more as the Mustangs
(12-8, 4-2 in league) claimed victory.
Stacee Sanchez was also in double figures for Costa Mesa with 11
points.
Saddleback falls to 8-12, 2-4.
