Vanguard goes up to No. 16

Vanguard University climbed to 16th place in the NAIA Women’s

Basketball poll Tuesday and finished the day by defeating host

California Baptist in Riverside, 70-6,1 to maintain a hold on first

place in the Golden State Athletic Conference with a 10-1 record.

The Lions established a 30-23 lead in the first half on 5 of 9

shooting from the three-point area.

Vanguard held on for the ride in the second half, outscoring the

hosts, 40-38, to complete the 9-point margin ofvictory and remain and

improve to 10-1 in the GSAC. Vanguard made 17 of 24 free throws in

the final 20 minutes to choke off the comeback efforts of Cal

Baptist.

Miranda Emde paced CBU with 22 points and Angela Romagnoli tossed

in 14 points and hauled in a team-high 7 rebounds for the 11-11 Lady

Lancers. Cal Baptists drops to 4-7 in GSAC.

Jennifer Wilcox stepped up with 17 points for the Lions and senior

Robbin Dittenbir dropped in 13 points and seven rebounds as Vanguard

improves to 15-7 overall.

Vanguard travels to Biola Saturday for the next conference match

up. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
