Ocean View High’s boys’ basketball team capped the first half of

Golden West League play undefeated with a 60-49 victory over visiting

Estancia.

The Seahawks finished the first half of competition leading the

league with a 6-0 mark.

Ocean View is seeking its fifth consecutive league championship.

Matt Sargeant’s 22 points topped all scorers, and teammates Alan

Kreymer and Jeff Wilson -- who hit two, three-point baskets -- each

finished with 10 points.

The win over Estancia was the second of the week for Ocean View,

which jumped out to a 12-point first quarter lead and went on to rout

host Saddleback, 78-40.

The Seahawks limited the Roadrunners to just 11 second-half

points, including a mere three in the third quarter.

Casey Ortiz scored 26 points, Sargeant had 20, and Bear Wurts

scored 13 to lead the Seahawks.

In Sunset League boys’ basketball action, Edison held off a late

charge by Huntington Beach to score a 39-36 victory on its home

floor.

The Chargers trailed the Oilers, 15-12, after one quarter, but

held Huntington Beach to just one point in the second period to take

a 24-16 lead at the break.

Edison got a game-high 15 points from Tommy Grady.

James Bailey’s 11 points topped Huntington Beach.

Marina nailed seven three-point baskets against Los Alamitos, but

they weren’t enough in a 74-60 road loss.

The game was decided just after halftime, when the Griffins

outscored the Vikings, 19-8, in the third quarter.

Of Marina’s seven three-point baskets, Matt Brennan hit three, and

James Lambert and Brett Brown each hit two.

Brennan led Marina with 17 points, and Lambert finished with 14.

In girls’ basketball, Ocean View pulled away from a one-point

halftime lead to down visiting Saddleback, 56-49, for its second

Golden West League victory.

Erica Williams led all scorers with 24 points, and Corinne

Esposito added 11 points for the Seahawks.

Sunset League action saw Edison outscore host Huntington Beach,

29-8, in the second half of play, to pull away to a 45-31 victory.

Sophomore Rebecca Kepilino had another big game for the Chargers

with 21 points including two three-point baskets and 10 rebounds.

Katia Hadj-Hamou paced Huntington Beach with 14 points.

Edison went on to net a 48-36 victory over visiting Los Alamitos.

Valerie Kepilino scored and Kepilino had another double-double

with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Chargers.

In boys’ soccer, Marina received two goals each by J.T. Searles

and Noe Osorio and went on to defeat host Los Alamitos, 4-1.

Ocean View was blanked by Saddleback, 5-0.

In girls’ soccer, host Ocean View edged Saddleback, 1-0, as the

Seahawks improved to 6-1 in league.

Edison rode Jane Wyche’s late goal to a 1-0 victory over Huntington Beach.

The Chargers also downed Los Alamitos by the same 1-0 count, using a Stacia Hoover goal in the 60th minute for the victory.

Marina was blanked by Los Alamitos, 3-0.

In girls’ water polo, Ashlee Soule scored four of Ocean View’s

five goals, but it wasn’t enough to get the Seahawks past host Santa

Ana in a 10-5 Golden West League loss.
