JAN. 22

* Thalia Street: Police arrested a 26-year-old Dana Point man on

suspicion of driving under the influence in the 100 block at 1:16

a.m.

* South Coast Highway: Police received a call that a woman was

stuck in an elevator in the 600 block at 8:02 a.m. The reporting

party called back after he had rescued the woman.

* South Coast Highway: A grand theft was reported in the 31000

block at 2:25 p.m. Hotel guests returned to their car and discovered

that someone stole a laptop, two digital cameras and a 35mm camera.

The slim jim used to open the car was left at the scene. Total loss

$2,300.

* Skyline Drive: Police responded to a house alarm in the 1500

block at 3:23 p.m. They determined that one of the 12 cats living

there may have set it off.

JAN. 23

* Glenneyre Street: Police responded to a non-injury traffic

collision in the 2400 block at 10:18 a.m.

* South Coast Highway: Police arrested a 45-year-old transient on

a Harbor Court warrant for public intoxication in the 1000 block at

2:13 p.m.

* South Coast Highway: A store owner called police when a drunken

man refused to leave in the 1300 block at 7:27 p.m. Police arrested a

25-year-old Washington man on a warrant for kidnapping and assault.

* South Coast Highway: A resident called police to report that

her daughter was very drunk in the 500 block at 9:43 p.m. Police

arrested a 32-year-old Laguna Beach woman on suspicion of public

intoxication and assault on a police officer.

* Diamond Street/South Coast Highway: An officer conducted a

traffic stop near the intersection and arrested a 33-year-old New

York man on suspicion of driving under the influence at 11:13 p.m.

FRIDAY

* South Coast Highway: Police arrested a 45-year-old Newport

Beach man on suspicion of driving under the influence in the 8000

block at 2:01 a.m.

* South Coast Highway: Officers were called to a disturbance in

the 1400 block at 8:46 a.m. The hotel manager told police that when

he tried to charge a guest for his room, the man became irate and,

when the manager called the police, ripped the phone out of the wall.

Officers stopped and cited a 21-year-old Laguna Hills man for

vandalism.

* Wendt Terrace: A vehicle facing the wrong way on the 600 block

was cited at 8:14 a.m.

* North Coast Highway: Police responded to a collision involving

a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 200 block at 3:48 p.m.

* Nyes Place: Police responded to a fight-in-progress call in the

400 block at 7:25 p.m. A brother and sister became involved in an

altercation when she turned up the radio while he was watching a

football game on TV. The 55-year-old man claimed she slapped him. The

48-year-old woman claimed he tried to choke her out. Both were cited

for battery.

* El Toro/Laguna Canyon roads: A 21-year-old Laguna Niguel man

was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence near the

intersection at 11:54 p.m.

SATURDAY

* Third/Mermaid streets: A resident reported that cables were

hanging low over the street near the intersection at 9:22 a.m.

Verizon was advised of the problem.

* North Coast Highway: Police arrested a 46-year-old Laguna Beach

woman on suspicion of domestic violence in the 1200 block at 5:16

p.m. She allegedly scratched her boyfriend’s arm and neck when he

tried to leave during an argument. An emergency protective order was

issued against the suspect, and she was transported to Orange County

Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

* Virginia Drive: Neighbors called police when a parent locked a

one-year-old child out of the house in the 31000 block at 9:44 p.m.

Police counseled the parents.

SUNDAY

* Cress Street: A sewer leak was reported from a manhole on

private property in the 700 block at 8:35 p.m. The sewage was

contained in a nearby park and at 9:22 a.m. the obstruction was

cleared.

* South Coast Highway: A resident reported that someone was using

fireworks on the beach in the 31000 block at 10:02 a.m. The group

left before the officer’s arrival.

* Temple Terrace: A resident reported that her ex-boyfriend

entered her home through the doggie door in the 1200 block at 11:20

a.m. She loaned him money, and he gave her clothing for collateral.

She came home and found things out of place, but none of her

belongings were removed.

* Laurel Lane: A missing 3-year-old child was reported in the

31000 block at 3:10 p.m. The parents checked the neighborhood and

called back to report that they had found the child asleep in the

house.

* Broadway: A resident reported a sharpei dog on the loose in the

400 block at 3:02 p.m. The owner had been warned in the past about

allowing the dog to get loose. The dog was taken into custody.

* Alta Laguna Park: An officer responded to an occupied vehicle

call near the park at 11:13 p.m. Two men were cited for possession of

marijuana, and a 16-year-old boy was cited and transported to the

station to be picked up by his parents.

MONDAY

* Mountain Road: An officer responded to an occupied vehicle call

in the 100 block at 1:46 a.m. After the officer contacted the driver

and received consent to search him and the vehicle, he discovered

methamphetamine and a meth pipe. The 36-year-old Costa Mesa man was

arrested for possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. After he

was booked, he was released on his own recognizance.

* Forest Avenue: A resident reported a hit-and-run in the 300

block at 10:44 a.m. Witnesses told police that a 60-year-old man

turned into a parking space and collided with another parked vehicle.

He went into a neighboring business to borrow a pen to write a note,

but did not leave it. Police are investigating the incident.

* Nyes Place: A resident reported that construction workers

posted unauthorized “no parking” signs on the street in the 100 block

at 1:32 p.m. The signs were removed.

* Poplar Street: A stolen vehicle was reported in the 300 block

at 1:34 p.m. The owner believed the 1976 300D Mercedes Benz was

stolen sometime between Sunday and Monday afternoon. The case is

under investigation.

* Park Avenue: A power line was hit by construction crews in the

600 block at 2:42 p.m.

* Canyon Acres Drive: Two narcotics arrests resulted from a

probation search in the 400 block at 12:20 p.m. The 19-year-old

roommate of the man on probation was arrested after officers found a

baggie of methamphetamine in his pocket, pot and a meth pipe.

Officers also arrested a 40-year-old female for possession of

methamphetamine. A child was also taken into protective custody at

the scene.

TUESDAY

* Alta Laguna Park: A resident reported a large amount of black

smoke in the park or canyon at 9:35 a.m. Firefighters were conducting

an organized burn in the Trabuco Canyon area.

* Catalina Street: A stray beagle was reported in the 1200 block.

An animal services officer picked it up and took it home. A notice

was left at the owner’s home.

* North Coast Highway: A vehicle burglary was reported in the

1400 block at 4:54 p.m.

* Panorama Drive: A tractor/trailer was reported stuck in the

curve in the 400 block at 5:39 p.m. It almost hit a fire hydrant, and

four workers were flagging traffic while the driver maneuvered it

free.

* Wesley Drive: Officers responded to a call about a deceased

person in the 21000 block at 4:12 p.m. The apartment manager found

the 85-year-old Laguna woman, who was believed to have suffered a

heart attack. The coroner’s investigator found no signs of foul play,

Her body was released to her family.

* Park Avenue: A janitor reported suspicious activity in the 600

block at 4:28 p.m. Officers arrested a juvenile for interfering with

the peaceful conduct of campus activities, possession of tobacco

products and assault on school property. He was discovered to be a

runaway from Orangewood Children’s Home.
